Postpartum Treatment
in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, or virtually anywhere in Iowa.
Where we make space for every emotion.
Parenthood brings both joy and grief—and postpartum support should hold space for all of it. Our therapists don’t hold the expectation that a new child only brings happiness. In fact, this new season can be tender, complex, and lonely. We know pregnancy is hard on the body, and we know the after effects bring more challenges to your physical, mental, and interpersonal life. Because of this, we believe in . . .
support for the raw, real postpartum experience.
At Health Hope Harmony, our therapists provide nonjudgmental care for parents navigating the many challenges that happen after pregnancy. Whether you’re navigating birth trauma, identity shifts, intrusive thoughts, or the emotional rollercoaster of new parenthood, our specialized care offers a space where you can be seen and supported—without judgment, pressure, or shame.
Our postpartum therapists help with:
Postpartum anxiety, depression, OCD
Birth trauma and medical trauma
Identity confusion and role transitions
Rage, shame, or “not bonding” fears
Returning to work, partner conflict, sleep deprivation
Our postpartum treatment focusses on:
Normalizing your experience—no topic is off limits
Flexible scheduling and telehealth options
Support for all types of parents (including non-birthing partners)
Making plans to grow your family—or having a little surprise addition—is a lot on its own already. We understand that parenthood is a big journey, and things don’t always end up the way we hoped or expected, or even the way we thought they should. Postpartum unleashes multiple new challenges, usually all at once: lack of sleep, body changes, lifestyle changes, self-esteem and identity changes, overstimulation, community changes, hormones, depression, anxiety, recovery, PTSD, loneliness—and that’s not even including the challenge of going through birth.
Seeking counseling during the postpartum period can be a great outlet to maintain a sense of self and process through the many unexpected things that come along with growing a family. People may pursue counseling to address feelings of isolation, fears of losing a previous way of life or fears of becoming a bad parent. People may also pursue therapy to process a traumatic birth experience, a heartbreaking loss, or navigating their new role as a parent.
Why do people get treatment for postpartum?
Struggling to manage daily tasks due to overwhelming sadness or anxiety
Experiencing panic attacks
Unable to sleep due to racing thoughts and fears
Feeling disconnected from baby or other important relationships
Feelings of hopelessness, regret, or guilt that keep you from emotional connection
Withdrawing due to irritability or anxiety

How can our therapists help?
Having and raising kids might be a common thing—but there’s a reason many cultures enlist the help of village to raise their kids: parenting is hard, especially at the beginning.
While our therapists can’t help with childcare, they can help navigate the rollercoaster of events you’re experiencing. Our postpartum therapists aim to create a safe, nonjudgmental space for parents to explore the new territory of parenthood and develop strategies for surviving postpartum.
Whether you’re dealing with a brand new baby or trying to navigate your relationship, our approach is tailored to your unique needs, empowering you to feel centered in yourself again while you grow.
