Therapeutic Anxiety Treatment in Iowa

When your thoughts won’t slow down, we help you soften them.

Anxiety is real—and exhausting. With symptoms that can mirror a medical emergency, it’s no wonder people have mistaken panic attacks for heart attacks. Anxiety can also go completely unnoticed, manifesting in feelings of fear, overthinking, people-pleasing, and perfectionism. In a society that values endless sacrifice, anxiety can even seem like a “regular” part of life, but…

anxiety isn’t something you have to live with.

At Health Hope Harmony, we know how hard the first step of reaching out can be. No matter if you’re struggling with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, or panic, our therapists will take the time to validate your experience, offer tools to calm your nervous system, and help untangle the beliefs that keep you stuck in fight-or-flight.

Our therapists help with:

  • Constant worrying and overthinking

  • Restlessness and feeling on edge

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Irritability

  • Sleep disturbances

Our treatment focuses on:

  • Understanding root causes, not just symptom control

  • Nervous system regulation tools (breathwork, grounding, etc.)

  • Rewriting patterns of overworking, overthinking, and over-giving

Is Anxiety Treatment Right For You?

Here are some commonly asked questions about counseling and treatment:

  • Yes! Anxiety counseling can help you recognize the early signs of an oncoming panic attack and use tools you’ll learn in sessions to be able to minimize the intensity and/or stop it from progressing.

  • It depends. Medication definitely has its place in anxiety treatment if that is something you want to use.

We’ve also found a lot people have success not using medication and instead relying on their tools to help lessen the anxiety.

  • A lot of folks start to see improvement within a few sessions. Our counselors want you to see improvements as quickly as possible (small wins are great!) so we help you understand the anxiety and teach you how to lessen the effects through tools you’ll learn and practice in session.

  • Each of our counselors has a slightly different personality and style so sessions will vary.

You can expect a mix of education about anxiety (what it is, what it isn’t, where it comes from) and practical tools to practice in session and use between sessions. These tools are tailored to you and what works best for you.

You don’t have to live with constant worry and stress. Counseling can help you find calm and regain control over your life. We have caring therapists who specialize in anxiety counseling that can see you in person at our Cedar Rapids or Des Moines offices or virtually anywhere in Iowa.
