Not long ago, I believed only martyrs changed the world. I followed this belief into the field of crisis work and, from there, I sacrificed myself for years in an attempt to make a change. What I didn't realize at the time though is that, although the work was important, I was robbed of my sense of peace. Worse yet, I was robbed of my hope.

The world is surely a broken place. Having to come to terms with my own trauma, insecurities, and mental health diagnoses while still working inside the mental health field was a confusing space to navigate--but only when I let myself share my burdens and allow my community to see my grief did I finally find hope again.

My own therapy journey changed my experience of the world and the people around me. In many ways, I think this is how the world heals and changes. Today, I strive to help connect others with the person who can traverse their own complicated story with them and, in doing so, change the world one person at a time.
